Kareem Abdul Jabbar (in that moment known as Lew Alcindor) with a short shot and an additional free throw with 48 seconds left, gave the win to the West.
The MVP was Lenny Wilkens, who made 21 points in 20 minutes (8-11 FG and 5-5 FT). He led West in a key 14-1 stretch.
In 1971, Lenny Wilkens (33 years) was the player-coach in the Seattle SuperSonics, and became at the time the oldest MVP in All-Star history. In 1998, Michael Jordan replaced him nine days short of his 35th birthday.
