Because of the great score (150-130) there were a lot of heroes in this edition.
On the Eastern team, the high scorer, Wilt Chamberlain with 42 points (a new scoring record), but the West had a poker of players who made differences. Walt Bellamy 23 points and 17 rebounds, Elgin Baylor got 32 points, and Oscar Robertson 26 points and 13 assists. But the MVP went to Bob Pettit, with 25 points and 27 rebounds (all history rebound record in a All Star). Pettit got his 4th MVP, a record that nobody else has achieved.
The West team based his triumph in a great second half with 86 points (45 + 41).

Lakers Rudy LaRusso practiced with the West team as substitute for teammate Elgin Baylor, who at the time was in the military service, but received a late permission to play the game and LaRusso did not play.

Boston Celtics were the first team to have 4 of their players selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game.
